If
you are having problems with any media player,
especially when things worked properly and you did not
have problems before this, TRY THIS FIRST:
Many media players
develop odd operation problems when you have a large
number of Temporary Internet Files accumulated on your
har drive, particularly using Microsoft Internet
Explorer. TRY EMPTYING YOUR TEMPORARY INTERNET
FILES and then CLOSE & RESTART YOUR BROWSER.
If you do not know how to
do this, on Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the TOOLS
menu and select INTERNET OPTIONS. Under the
GENERAL Tab (which it opens to), look at the second
section down ["Temporary Internet Files"] and click the
button "DELETE FILES...". If you have a lot of
files, this make take several minutes to complete.
If you are using Real
Player, you should also "Empty [the] Clip Cache." See
Item 4 below for instructions. |

Finding the
FREE Real Player & which version you may want for
playing our
Programs On-Demand.
1. For
our
Programs On-Demand in Real Audio.
You will NEED
AT LEAST REAL PLAYER Version 8 for all of our Real Audio programs on
demand. Real Player versions 7 or lower cannot
display our song title displays, so they will not work on
any Programs On-Demand on this site.
2. You
Can Find it Free - The
basic Real One Player Player is
free from this link (use the right side "get our basic
player")
(NOTE: There really IS a free
version of the player, but they sometimes make it hard to
find!
(and they change the location of the link. As of this
update [Feb, 2007], it is located on the page linked above -
on the right side). If our link above is NOT working,
then use this main page
link and look to the far upper right for a TINY
link: "Free Real One Player." Then on the page
that follows, look for the "or get our basic player" section
and the
"Download
the Free RealOne Player Only" link.
3. If You Don't want
the Newest Version, you can still find version 8. At the time of this writing (Feb 2007), you
can still download and install version 8 from this page on
the Real site:
>
Click Here to find & download Version 8 of Real Player
After you have installed the player see How to Listen, What the Play Buttons
Mean / Sound Quality on our FAQ page for how our
Programs On-Demand are set up. If you are new to the site,
or need help understanding how it is setup, please click

Notes about
the MP3 Programs On Demand options vs. Real Audio & Real
Player
Most of our Programs On
Demand series (excluding a few series without Member's
Options) now have MP3 listening options. We still use
Real Audio for the Modem Speed (LO) listening option on some
series because
Real Audio 21 kbps still offers better quality at that lower
rate. Our HI and CD quality options are now MP3 56 and
128 kbps.
At the 56 & 128 streaming
rates, we give you the option of launching the programs with
either Real Player, where we can supply you with display
information about the program in the player window, or your
default MP3 player (Winamp is recommended by us, or iTunes,
Windows Media Player, many others). Just to be clear,
the 56 & 128 streams are MP3 audio, even if launched with
our Real Player buttons. The special buttons for Real
Audio are for the purpose of launching the title and display
info along with the MP3 audio. which we can only do with
Real Player. MP3 play button options do not have this
information display.
There are far more files
associated with the Real Audio play button options (in order
to provide the display of titles and information), so if you
experience problems using these options, please try the MP3
player button options.

Real Player Problems, Song Title Displays:
We have song title displays
on most of our Real Audio Programs On-Demand.
You WILL need at
least the basic REAL PLAYER 8 for our Real Audio Programs
On-Demand options,
and any versions of the newer Real One player should work
fine (as of this writing, the most recent version [10-5Gold]
works fine with our displays) . The Song Title displays
generally work well, but here are some known issues or
problems:
a. For OPTIMAL display
of our player window titles and CD images, we recommend that
you DETACH the "Media Browser" from the player.
We automatically load our web page with the complete
playlist of the Program Set that you are hearing into the
Media Browser window. On Member's program streams,
there will be no ad or other pop-ups from those playlist
pages.
b. On some occasions, you
may get a script error when pressing a Play button -
the error message usually has something about a missing
close bracket near line xxxx, or similar.
Pressing the same or another Play button again usually works
correctly and resolves it. If we can determine
what causes this to occur we will adjust it.
c. Song title displays will
sometimes not work if you go BACK (left) one or more clips
using the clip selector - this is on the "Playlist" bar on
the Real Player (if it is not visible, got to the "View"
menu and select "Playlist.")
d. If you use the "slider" to
try to skip ahead in the program before all of the titles
load, they will not work properly from the point you select.
How you can tell if all of the title files have loaded:
Using a 20.7 kbps stream as the example, when you first
start the program, you will see a higher bit rate indicated
in the green info panel at the bottom - probably 44 kbps -
for some time after the start of the program. This
depends on your connection speed, and will last from a few
seconds to a minute. After all of the title files have
loaded, the bit rate will drop to about 20.8 kbps in the
display window.
e. if the player display
contains CD images, If you use the "slider" to try to skip
ahead in the program, the images for the selection that you
stop in will not display (whatever song's CD image that you
were on when you moved the slider might stay in the display)
. At the point of the next song change (segue) the
proper images for the current and previous songs will
display correctly.
Generally, there are far more
files associated with the Real Audio play button options (in
order to provide the display of titles and information), so
if you experience problems using these options, please try
the MP3 player button options.

Real Player Problems, File
not Found errors when clicking "play:"
If you click on a button for
one of our Programs On-Demand and get a message like:
Requested file not found. The
link you followed may be outdated or innacurate.
file://C:/WINDOWS/Temporary Internet
Files/Content.IE5/G1Y38DQV/eo-127-5[1].ram.
This problem occurs with
Internet Explorer when there are a huge amount of "temporary
internet files" stored on your local computer's C drive.
To resolve the problem, go to your Real Player menu under
"View" / "Preferences" and select the "Performance" Tab.
Under the 2nd item down - "Clip Cache" - click the
"Settings" button, then click "Empty Clip Cache." This
may take up to a few minutes to complete.
Note that this problem may
occur even if you have a lot (1GB+) free space on your
drive. In cases where we have seen this, Emptying the
Clip Cache, or just deleting the files from the directory
that Real Player shows that it is using, has resolved the
problem.

Real Player Problems, Programs On-Demand won't play / Security
Programs
(Also: Programs On-Demand start playing, but I get a file
error after a short time - over and over)
(Also: The MP3 CoolStreams constantly cut out)
If you are using a web
security program like "Norton
Internet Security 2005" or others,
sometimes they cause problems that prevent some or all of
our Programs On-Demand to play on your computer. If you are
using a security program and are experiencing problems, try
disabling the security program to see if it resolves the
problem. SYMPTOMS:
The Real Player opens and the Program starts playing, but
only plays for a short time before stopping with an error
message indicating that a file or image was not found, or
the Server timed out. You click OK, the player starts
the next program set, and the same thing happens repeatedly.
We have seen this problem with "Norton
Internet Security 2005" in particular. This may be
because our scripts which sync the audio to the song titles
and CD images download a large number of small files, and
processing them through the Norton Internet Security program
takes too long. We have tried increasing the Real
Player setting for connection time out (under Tools /
Preferences / Playback Settings / Connection) to over 60
seconds, but it did not resolve the problem. The
only way we have been able to play the Programs On-Demand
Under "Norton Internet Security 2005" was to change the
status setting to "OFF." You may want to read
other user reviews and experiences with "Norton
Internet Security 2005" on
Amazon (click to read) or other relevant posting boards.
We have also had problems
playing the MP3 CoolStreams on some machines under "Norton
Internet Security 2005" in particular. the SYMPTOM is
that the CoolStream will stop and start often as if the
stream is droppping out or turning off. When we turned
off Norton
Internet Security 2005, the stream played perfectly.
If you are using our MP3
Coolstreams, see #11 below also! |

Real Player Problems,
Network Congestion,
Connection Times Out
Network congestion is usually
experienced over modem connections, and is often right at
the ISP. But it can be other points along the path between
the servers and your location as well.
Note that the 56 k & 128 k
(or older HI, FM, CD1)
and even the Live365 MP3 streams will not work well, or at
all, over 56k modems!
There are a few things you can try in Real Player also:
A. You can try
increasing the "buffer" size on the Player. Here's how it
is set up in the Real One Player, Version 2:
Go to TOOLS / Preferences - Preferences is near the bottom
of the menu (note, if the player opened in "compact" display
mode, as many of our links will cause it to do, the TOOLS
menu may be to the right of "File View Play
Favorites..." where you see ">>")
Click the "Connection" link on the left side under
"Category"
First, in the top section, check your "Bandwidth" settings
and set to match your connection situation if it is not
already set correctly
NEXT, click "Playback settings", check "Buffered Play" to
see if it has a value like:
When needed, buffer 30 seconds of the clip before playing
NEXT, look at Network time-out below that. It says:
"If you frequently receive network time-out errors, you can
increase the
time Real One Player waits before reporting a connection
failure.
Start with values like:
Connection 20 Seconds ;
Server 90 Seconds
If that does not work well, try
Connection 40 Seconds ; Server 90 Seconds
Connection 60 Seconds ; Server 120 Seconds
etc.
Experiment with these values to see if a better result can
be obtained. If the connection is experiencing real
problems, you may still experience dropouts or
interruptions. |

HELP! Nothing Works!
You have tried clicking on a
"Play-LO" button for Real Audio, and tried clicking on a
Listen-HI button for streaming MP3, and nothing at all
happens. Here's some possible reasons:
a.) If you have never
streamed audio over the internet to your PC before, and are
just trying to liisten for the first time:
a.1.) For the Real Audio
streams, you must download the Real Player as in 1) above.
If you are unable to download the player, you may be
behind a company firewall that does not allow you to
download anything - some company policies are that
restrictive. Check with your computer or Information
Systems department.
a.2.) For the MP3 streams,
if you have never listened from Live365 before, a window
should pop up asking you to configure your system with an
MP3 player. If you choose to download the "Live 365"
player, you could be blocked by a company firewall that
does not allow you to download anything - some company
policies are that restrictive. Check with your
computer or Information Systems department.
Here is a more comprehensive Help Page on
Live365. In some very restrictive environments,
you may not see any window or message appear at all.
b.) If you have streamed
audio over the internet to your PC before, here are some
things to double check before contacting us:
b.1.) Know your connection
speed. If you are using a 56k modem connection,
the only buttons on CoolStreams that will work reliably
are "Play-LO" and "Members-LO." The
MP3-56 & MP3-128 (or older
"Play-HI," "Listen-HI" or Members-HI, "Members-FM," and
"Members-CD") streams ALL REQUIRE greater than a 56 k
connection, like DSL, Cable Modem, or T1.
c.) If you are using any
kind of Internet Security program, it could be causing
problems with our streams, even if it does not with other
stream sources.
c. 1) Please see item 5
above:
Real Player Problems, Programs On-Demand won't play / Security Programs
(Also: Programs On-Demand
start playing, but I get a file error after a short time -
over and over)
c. 2) See item 13 below:

USING the REAL PLAYER CONTROLS:
CLIPS: on most Real Audio program series', the
Programs On-Demand are presented as individual CLIPS. When
they are presented this way, you can skip ahead or back
an entire clip at a time (usually one complete program
or set).
On the older Real Player 8,
another window called "Playlist" will open below the
"Clip Info" window (if it is not open, select the VIEW
menu and click on "Clip Info" there). Look at the
RIGHT side of that window and you will see arrows
pointing left and right of text like "1 of 6" -
USE THESE ARROWS TO MOVE FORWARD OR BACK to the NEXT
CLIP. |
|
 |
On the newer Real One Players (version 8 & up),
the clips are not indicated with numbers like on Real
Player 7 or earlier, but you can use the arrow keys near
the bottom left of the player to change clips (click to
change clips, hold down to Fast Forward or Rewind). |
|
A common question
that we answer regards a feature on the real player that
many folks new to it do not notice at first. You
can drag the SLIDER on the top (Real Player 8) or
bottom (Real One Player) of the player to ANY POINT in
the "on demand" Programs On-Demand. When you do this, you
will see the approximate time that you are moving to
displayed in the TIME INDICATOR window at the bottom of
the player. When you let it go, you will have to
wait for the audio stream to "rebuffer," just like when
you first started the program. BUT read this
Important note: We no longer stream from a "Real
Server," so when you move the slider, the entire
file needs to download to the point that you selected.
So if you are on a lower speed connection (like 56k) and
drag the slider from the start to near the end of a one
hour file, it might take30-45 minutes to download the
file to that point. On a high speed line (DSL, T1,
etc.) it may still take 2-4 minutes. |
^ To top ^ |
|
9. |
Q. Why
can't you list the exact time that each cut on the program
starts so that we can drag the slider to that point on the
real player?
A.
Under the Digital Millennium
Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998,
we cannot have the exact start time
displayed on our site.
^ To top ^ |
|
10. |
Q. Why
Can't I skip songs that I don't like?
A.
Our Programs On Demand are broadcast style programs (or
actual broadcast programs) and our MP3 Coolstreams are set
up like Radio sound streams (songs are segued).

Q.
I'm
getting a window full of "undefined" where the play button
and other stuff should be when trying to play the MP3
CoolStreams for the first time.
A.
Our browser player has some
incompatibility issues with a few different older Norton products.
Essentially, they have some "security" settings that break
our browser-based player. The biggest problem has to do with
Norton Internet Security, which causes an "undefined"
problem when the player is launched.
If you are
using an internet security product like Norton, read on
and follow these instructions EXACTLY and DO NOT SKIP ANY
STEPS:
The appearance of numerous instances of the word
"undefined" in the Live365 Player window (as well as other
odd behavior such as incomplete windows, continuous
loading or an "object expected" error) is normally caused
by Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall or
Norton Anti-spam. To allow Live365 unrestricted access,
follow the steps below to exempt Live365 from Ad Blocking,
delete all of your temporary files, and then restart your
computer.
For 2004/2005 products
1. Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal
Firewall.
2. Click Ad Blocking > Configure > Advanced > Add Site.
3. Type www.Live365.com and then click OK.
4. Select the newly created www.Live365.com entry. In the
right pane, on the Ad Blocking tab, click Add.
5. Select Permit.
6. Type a single / into the dialog box, and then Click OK.
7. Click OK to close any open windows.
8. Log out of Live365 then delete all temporary internet
files from Internet Explorer (Tools->Internet
Options->Delete Files)
9. Restart the computer.
For 2003 products
1. Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal
Firewall.
2. Click Options.
3. On the Web Contents tab, click Add Site.
4. Type www.Live365.com and then click OK.
5. Select the newly created www.Live365.com entry. In the
right pane, on the Ad Blocking tab, click Add.
6. Select Permit.
7. Type a single / into the dialog box, and then Click OK.
8. Click OK to close any open windows.
9. Log out of Live365 then delete all temporary internet
files from Internet Explorer (Tools->Internet
Options->Delete Files)
10. Restart the computer.
For Norton Anti-Spam:
1. Open Norton Anti-Spam
2. Click on "Ad Blocking" (or "Popup Blocking" whichever
is on)
3. Click on "Advanced" to configure for individual web
sites
4. Click on "Add Site" and a window will appear named "New
Site/Domain"
5. Enter www.Live365.com, and click "OK" and the site will
be highlighted in the Web Contents Options window
6. Click "Add..." under the Ad Blocking window and the
"Add New HTML String" window will appear. Select "Permit,"
type in a backslash "/" and click OK, then click OK in the
Advanced window
7. Log out of Live365 then delete all temporary internet
files from Internet Explorer (Tools->Internet
Options->Delete Files)
8. Restart the computer.
If these steps
do not resolve the problem, please contact us for additional
help.

Q. I Cannot
login to the MP3 CoolStreams - I type my Login and Password
and the same login screen just returns over and over again!
(I know the login is correct)
A.
If your Membership is current (not expired), then you may
be on a browser with very restricted "cookie" settings:
Internet
Explorer 6.0 or higher
To enable the cookies on Internet Explorer open an instance
of the browser. Go to "Tools" then "Internet Options". Click
on the "Privacy" tab. Lower the slider to the bottom to
"Accept All Cookies". (Note: If you don't want to go all the
way to "Accept All Cookies," the player also should work on
settings of LOW, MEDIUM and MEDIUM-HIGH, but you might see a
"The Page Cannot Be Displayed" message on the top of the
Player window using these settings. The player will
not let you login on settings of HIGH and BLOCK ALL
COOKIES!)
Internet Explorer (5.0, 5.5):
To enable the cookies on Internet Explorer open an instance
of the browser. Go to "Tools" then "Internet Options" Hit
the "Security" tab and go to "Custom Level". Scroll down to
"Cookies" and make sure that both cookies settings are
enabled. Hit "OK" then "Apply". This will turn your Internet
Explorer Cookies on.
Netscape Navigator (4.7x):
To enable the cookies on Netscape Navigator 4.7x open an
instance of the browser. Go to "Edit" then "Preferences".
There click on "Advanced", make sure that "Accept All
Cookies" is checked and hit "OK". This will turn your
Netscape Navigator 4.7x Cookies on.
If you have
tried these settings and still cannot login, please email
members @ musicsojourn (dot com) for assistance. If
your Membership and login has expired, you should see a
small red warning message saying that the login is not valid
at the lower left side of the player
