Hi! Welcome back to Celtic Rock 'N Reel! Mary Black starts us off with a sad song, but powerful! The segue with Rare Air's Mad Plaid was just tooooo good to pass up, but the entire song is almost 11:00 minutes, so I just used the beginning of it here. If you want to hear the whole tune, let me know. We don't mind playing long tunes, I just had some other requests lined up for this program. Like Ossian up next. And Cherish the Ladies, Solas (by many requests, so you'll hear more) and Silly Wizard. Since Altan's music is in the backdrop (A Tune For Frankie is a tribute to the late Frankie Kennedy by Mairead [lead singer], his wife - we'll play this in its entirety on a later show), we started off the encore set with the title from Island Angel (which does include Frankie K). Another from the Rare Air album Mad Plaid, and more from often requested artists Wolfstone and Runrig. Last up is Clannad with the title from thier earlier Pop/Rock album Sirius - those from the more traditional side really didn't like this album, but I think it is well done for what it was meant to be. Maire's voice makes anything they do outstanding. Overall, I do like their more traditional songs better, and you'll hear them on Celtic Currents pretty regularly!
