	Feature Album: Caufield - Leave Tonight
Scott's Blog Notes: Caufield's first album,  "Falling Short of Utopia," previously featured here, was reminiscent, to me, of picking up the "Buckingham Nicks" album way back in 1973, which is still one of my all-time favorite albums of any genre, and "Falling Short of Utopia" is still pretty high up on my list of favorites also - I'll have to see how it holds up with time, but I suspect that it will.  However, the Caufield duo has changed since that album (full details below), with a new female vocalist on the 2nd release "Leave Tonight."  Nonetheless, I still think Caufield has kept true to the sound developed on the first release, though the songs on "Leave Tonight" are a bit more varied and venture off in some different musical directions.  This is another solid release, with the songs tending a little more toward Alternative stylings perhaps (look for another feature of "Leave Tonight" with a different slant on Alt Aspects shortly).  Here's a brief Caufield story: Caufield is an acoustic, male-female harmony duo.  Caufield's music is based around the songs of singer-songwriter Tom Caufield.  A big fan of Jackson Browne and James Taylor, Tom, originally from Michigan, started out in music playing in bar bands around the mid-west, most notably as a member of Ohio's The Raisins, who went on to become Adrian Belew's Bears.  In 1987, Tom was signed to Passport records, and released a solo album "Long Distance Calling."  Sonn after, he moved to Los Angelas and was signed to the publishing firm Wild Pink Music, who have placed his songs in a wide variety of network television programs, including "Felicity," "One Life To Live," "The Young & The Restless," "Summerland" and many others..  In 2002, Tom met singer Maureen Doherty, and asked her to sing support harmony for him on his solo gigs.  The audiences loved their harmony sounds, so they decided to develop a set of music together using the harmony approach, and released their debut CD "Falling Short of Utopia" in 2005.  At then end of 2005, Maureen decided to pursue her solo career, and Tom found German born singerYasmin Tanriverdi after conducting a search through Craigs List.  Yasmin Tanriverdi, originally from Pirmasens, Germany, has been singing professionally since the age of 14. Scott's Blog Notes: Just when I think I've run out of surprises, I open up an envelope and pull out 2 cds from an independent artist.  I pop one of the cds into the player while still doing something else, but - WHACK - I am like a deer in the headlights, captivated by the quality of the songs and sounds. I lose track of whatever else I was trying to do, and it now becomes important to spend time trying to figure out who this performer is and why I haven't heard of him before this.  If you get a new John Gorka or Pierce Pettis CD, you know what to expect, so just to make sure it was not just the element of surprise here, I gave these the wife test (I gave them to my wife and could not get them back from her car player for a long time).  So it was for me with "One Night In The South," by Dave Potts, along with "$12.99 " his newer release that was featured previously here last fall.  Yes, these songs will captivate you too, both with the quality of the music itself and the stories interwoven within.  So excuse my rambling, and enjoy what may be a wonderful new discovery for you also, the music of Dave Potts, along with more Fresh Cuts from previously featured albums by Lindsey Buckingham, Shawn Colvin, Bill Leslie, Linda Ronstadt & Ann Savoy, Ed Gerhard, plus some classics from Judy Collins, James Taylor and even Seals & Crofts!
