Program Notes: On this edition of 70's Free Form Forvm, you'll hear some early songs from some very well known artists.  Starting out is Peter Frampton's group Frampton’s Camel , as they were called when they produced their second album.  I've pulled a tune here called "I Got My Eyes On You," which is a lot smoother (on this album) than another tune called "Do You Feel Like We Do" (really!).   Many of you know that Peter later got the latter tune right on Frampton Comes Alive, but its a lot slower and sounds funny on this album.  Next up, Free, from their last album before Simon Kirke and Paul Rogers form Bad Company.  Heartbreaker is a great album with many good tunes, and the early "Bad Company" sound is evident on many of them, including (IMHO) the tune I played here - "Easy On My Soul."  Atomic Rooster was not quite so well known or well played in the US, but the song here, Devil's Answer, was reportedly a #4 hit in the UK.  If you read the AMG review on Steve Winwood's first solo album after leaving Traffic, just entitled "Winwood," they say the album was a big disappointment.  Maybe, but with most reliable artists, there's often an exception or two worth keeping the album for, and I think "Time Is Running Out" is one of two for this one (the other? "Vacant Chair").  Next up, Phil Manzanera's first solo album after Roxy Music - Diamond Head.  Lots of good tunes on this one.  You'll hear "East of Echo."   Fleetwood Mac follow, but well before Buckingham Nicks joined.  "Jewel Eyed Judy" still has a little bit of a blues feel as it alternates between a soft acoustic melody and a hard rockin' chorus.  Rounding out this nice long set is Jethro Tull from their second album, "Stand Up."  Back to the family is kinda similar to Jewel Eyed Judy before it - soft intro and rockin' chorus.  The vinyl album cover sports a cardboard cutout of the guys that 'stands up' when you open the cover fold.  It's cool, and it's still around!

Set #4

Set 2 starts out with Golden Earring.  The album "To The Hilt" was the Netherlands band's follow up to the Moontan ("Radar Love") album, but nobody even noticed it.  Too bad.  Submitted for your approval, the tune "Facedancer" with a cool acoustic electric blend that was about 10-15 years before its time.  10cc's album "How Dare You!" is the last one for Godley & Creme.  This tune, "Art for Art's Sake" found some airplay and popularity in the US.  The Hollies are not just a pop hit band, and this 1975 album, "Another Night," Engineered by Alan Parsons, has a couple of good rock tunes, including "You Gave Me Life."  So everybody knows "Rocky Mountain Way" from Joe Walsh's "The Smoker You Get..." album, but there's a whole album full of good tunes on this one - You'll hear "Days Gone By" here.   Those first three solo albums by Joe were never again equaled on a single release.   America's second (studio), "Homecoming" was also perhaps their best.   Here's one you may not have heard if you don't have the album: "Cornwall Blank."  It takes off at the end with one of the band's more rock n' roll efforts of their career.  Finally, a short track from the great debut album from The Eagles - Tryin', as we are to please you with the diverse range of music.
