  • Pianist Johnny Maddox is a living museum of piano history. With over 45 albums and record sales of over 11 million, including 9 gold singles, it's no wonder Johnny Maddox is considered the King of Ragtime music. Here he talks about his lifetime in music and current activities, including recordings available on Crazy Otto Music.
(2nd Interview) - In this May 15, '05 interview the King of Ragtime Johnny Maddox describes life in retirement and recalls different points of magnificent career that included playing for Patton's troops and releasing the first-ever million-seller piano record.

  • Mad Marge & The Stonecutters - In this March 5, 2006 interview we ask Mad Marge (a.k.a. Alicia) about the Stonecutters' upcoming European appearance with in Germany at the 19th Satanic Stomp with legends of the psychobilly scene. We also hear of the inspiration of The Simpsons and how it can be a good thing to have a drummer that knows people. There are not too many women fronting groups in psychobilly, so that alone makes this interview special.

  • Ronnie Magri - NYC Blue Devils - Ronnie Magri has worked with Little Richard and others that we talk about in this 10 June 2007 interview. The resume material and how Hurricane Katrina impacted him brings us up to date with his current role as drummer in NYC Blues Devils.

  • Majestic Twelve & Kenyata Sullivan's Searching for the Elvis Knob is premier indie pop with a variety of facets that feels not need for an edgy attitude or cutting-edge experimentation. In this interview Kenyata Sullivan (Wilmington, NC) discusses the album, which is gathered a ton of acclaim, as well as the long-lived WE Festival

  • Pierre-Yves Martel - I have been a big fan of experimental jazz and electro-acoustic music coming out of the Montreal area for years and I was excited to do this 22 April 2007 interview with Pierre-Yves Martel who is active in that scene. We discuss his use of prepared bass and more in this engaging chat.   Pierre-Yves Martel feature >>>

  • Mask - Sonja Kristina, formerly of Curved Air, gives an overview of her career in this 22 October 2006 interview. We hear about  the years in Curved Air, the more recent project Mask and the distinctive vocalists thought about her self-titled solo album only now re-issued to CD.

  • Mike Mariconda - In 2001 Mike Mariconda (Raunch Hands, Devil Dogs) decided after an 8-year absence from playing music that enough was enough. He joined with Sean “Sonny” Morales (Titz), Pat Pestorius (Stingers), Jeff Linton (Damn Times), and Matt Smith (White Heat) to be The Stepbrothers. The Stepbrothers full-length "Baby It's Over", recorded at Sweatbox Studios, and produced by Mike Mariconda, is another excellent rock and roll album from Licorice Tree Records. In this interview, Mike discusses the switching from being producer to being a production and that absolute lack of any connection between his previous group Raunch Hands and the '60s Epic comedy bluegrass ensemble of the same name.

  • Scott Marshall's recording "My Life in the Gush of Boasts". During the interview, Scott reveals the meaning of that play on words as it relates to two art worlds Scott stands in: music and painting. Scott turns a cynical eye to both as well as to politics and the rich.

  • Katharine McElroy - This spring 2005 interview is with Katharine McElroy. • Emma McGlynn's album "Kamikaze Birdie" (Impatio Sound) is the focus. The album starts with a potent rocker ("Whole Heap") that Emma aptly calls "punky". The rest recalls early Ani DiFranco, who Emma admits to being a big influence. The album is especially rich in structure, though the arrangements range from solo to trio.

  • Angela, McCluskey, Wild Colonials - vocalist Angela McCluskey and guitarist Shark

  • Man's Ruin Records, Frank Kozik, poster artist and the man behind Man's Ruin records

  • The Me Decade / Larry O. Dean has some of the same wry, heartland, closed mouth delivery that Stan Ridgway captivated a cult audience with in Wall of Voodoo. His CD with The Me Decade "Gentrification is Theft" is very well done with correct presence from the vocalist (Dean) and tasteful addition of strings. The guitars are very distorted and with the plain vocal delivery the comparison can be made to Velvet Underground ("Not Enough Hours in the Day"). In this interview, Dean talks about the full-band project The Me Decade as well as his solo activity on his October 2002 Couch Trip Tour and monthly round-robin singer-songwriter events.

  • Morning 40 Federation  - After a few years of playing together and releasing local albums, Josh Cohen discusses the new prospects for the decadent blues-jazz-rock ensemble Morning 40 Federation with its new, self-titled nationally distributed release on M80 Music. Josh ties together such disparate elements as the mythological Muses and the rugged Crescent City bar scene in explaining the impetus and direction of Morning 40 Federation.

  • Mortiis - Nordic demon elf performer

  • Stephen Moses - Alice Donut Drummer Stephen Moses fills in on what has been happening with Alice Donut since disbanding after its 1000th gig in 1995. Also, the Alice Donut future is expounded upon with its ambitious return to recording. Touring will not be as accentuated as it was, but Three Sisters (Howler) is meant to be the first chapter in a three CD series that should offer some coherent vision of the new Alice Donut.

We discuss Dennis’s other music projects, like AudioLove, and Dennis Most And The Instigators. Being bootlegged on a Killed By Death compilation led to a resurgence and Dennis is still performing live and this proves he also gives a lively interview.      The Dennis Most Feature >>>

Here she talks on the phone amicably about how Howlin' Wolf is such an influence on the group, the Boston scene and their latest album Moanin' recorded with Jim Diamond at Ghetto Recorders in Detroit and mixed by Greg Cartwright (Oblivians). Unfortunately, one-half of the interview is lost due to technical difficulties, but this is still a candid introduction to one rooted rocker chick.

  • Mudville - Marilyn Carino - In this interview, Marilyn Carino speaks of Mudville's new CD "The Glory of Man is Not in Vogue" and keeps her pre-interview promise to "talk about all kinds of things and make it sparky!"

  • Jay Munly  - "Munly & The Lee Lewis Harlots" is Munly's fifth album and released in late October and as a co-release between Smooch & Alternative Tentacles.  Munly is also the front sideman of Slim Cessna's Auto Club and has written songs for the Auto Club's past two albums. Munly steps out of the well-known Slim Cessna's Auto Club southern Gothic aura to reveal an artistry even darker, yet a mind that is intelligent, sophisticated and varied in this enlightening and engaging interview.

  • Scott Munn: blackcowboy's 2, a gem of a CD, starts with the crackling land of a stylus on vinyl and then proceeds to fulfill a record collector's dream of vintage sound bytes and brisk breakbeats. Behind the sample collages is the twisted turntablism of Scott Munn. Explaining the genesis of this project as a series of Athens, GA afterhours jams and the current direction as a "real" band is Munn in this interview.

Non Music Topics:

  • Jesus Muhammad-Ali  "In the wake of the horrors of September 11, it’s author Jesus Muhammad-Ali’s desire to share insights of the Islamic faith. He shares insights on America’s 72 year long alliance with Saudi Arabia, which afforded our nation an “Ocean of Oil” that impacted industrial growth and American dominance in the world. The author reflects on off-colored aberrations of the religion, and the life of Elijah Muhammad that opened the door for the acceptance of the faith in the United States as represented by social activists like Malcolm X, world boxing champion Muhammad Ali and even the controversial Minister Louis Farrakhan. The Story Of Elijah Muhammad tells an American success story. It’s about a family who migrated to Detroit, Michigan from their Southern roots of Cordel County, Georgia in 1923. The family sought to escape southern racism only to weather the brutal and impoverished conditions of the Great Depression. With only a fourth grade education and the tutelage of his Arabian born mentor, a 19 year old, 40 cents-a-day wage earning Georgia plow boy, Elijah Poole became known to America and the World as The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. It has been 27 years since the author’s Grandfather, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s passing (2/25/1975). The book also seeks to provide some insight on to the broad-based value shift and the bastardizing of its original message." From http://www.jmamasterprints.com/. In this interview, hear the Jesus Muhammad-Ali discuss the book and the current state of the world.
