Scott's Blog Notes: More East meets Electronica from Bodhi, who describes this adventure as "Shamanic flutes with rich, ambient, dub-influenced electronic grooves [which] take the listener on a pilgrimage beyond borders."  There are a total of nine upbeat really cool grooves based around 3 major themes (Crimea I, II & III, Kiev I, II & III, Odessa  I, II & III), so while there's some thematic repitition within these, The riffs are just so catchy that the variations satisfy the wanting for more that the prior one leaves you with (even after 7-10 minutes in some cases).  It's hard to turn off!  These would be great backdrops for travel programs like Globe Trekker.  Bodhi (formerly Kevin Setchko) has produced 12 albums of original music including ones with his touring ensemble Crystal Wind.  Also this week, more from prior features Paul Avgerinos, Mark Isham, Ron Clearfield & others.

Scott's Blog Notes:  The compositions on Master Cellist Ron Clearfield's lastest effort, "Music in the Silence," trend significantly more to the classical edge than New Age.  The crowd interested in standard fare New Age will likely be turned off by most of the initial tracks, but should at least try the more reflective tracks like The Challenge," and "Resolution."  Ron offers songs inspired by nature's beauty and power, songs for hope and harmony, as well as songs of personal reflection and contemplation. The Cello can become an evocatively emotional instrument, and Ron unleashes that power on several tracks like "The Challenge," and "Resolution," 2 of 3 songs from a set titled "Transformations." "Global Awakening" is hope for the same, "One of our greatest chances for peace and unity must come not from our leaders, but within each individual by discovering the simple truth that intrinsically we are all the same ... in the reality that we all are alive and breathing and share a common instinct to feel love, happiness and fulfillment."  This is serious, more demanding music, well crafted for those into exploring the New Instrumental / Classical crossover styles.  --  Also fresh on our playlists this airing is Bill Leslie & Ken Townshend, and more Fresh Cuts from earlier features of Bodhi, Peter Janson, Jonathan Nicholson and more.
