Murray Grant - 3000 Days
Scott's Blog Notes: Vancouver, BC, Canada drummer Murray Grant played in progressive rock bands Drama and Nine.   Following the disbanding of Nine, he focused on music for film and video, completed a Film Music Intensive at Simon Fraser University, and took on work composing music for corporate videos.  Grant continued writing his own material, and his first release, House Of Mirrors was a collection of "New Age" instrumental compositions, with a unique, percussive flavour. Rhythm plays a very important part in the style of the album, where both electronic and acoustic drums and percussion interlace with a variety of different instruments and sounds. On this, his second self-produced effort, "3000 Days," Grant works with new instruments, including sitar, tablas and shakuhachi flute, producing sound textures across the album that merge New Age and Eastern flavors, as well as his percussive foundations, into a consistently pleasing soundscape.  For more about Murray Grant, visit his web site here >>>

Scott's Blog Notes: Dave Williams & Oliver Lewis are "The Deviations Project," 'Once described as Paganini meets Royksopp ... an incredible mix of “State of the Art” electronic computer technology and the pure, inspiring tones of the acoustic classical violin.'  Well, in general, its not a new concept, new classical / pop combinations & interpretations have been cropping up in every popular music era since modern music recording began (e.g.: "A Fifth of Bethoven" playing over in LOR), and there have been several other contemporary efforts in the New Age / Electronica space recently also (Rhythmic Fission - Digital Revisions of Classic Trax comes to mind).  This is a well conceived and well executed album, three of the selections are original compositions written by Dave Williams, and the remainder are extrapolations on mostly classical themes (including the track titles) - for example, Tchaikovsky's "Four Little Swans" becomes "Really Big Swans,"  Camille Saint-Saens "The Swan" becomes "Dear Old Swanney,"  "Carmen" becomes "The Car Men," and even Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" ("classical" to Ambient / New Age devotees) gets the treatement as "Les Belles."
