Interview:
Hans Fjellestad
talks about the nature of improvisation in the context of
the duo Donkey. At the time of this interview, Donkey had
just released the concept album Big Sur. Hans illuminates
the nature of the on-stage working relationship with his
partner Damon Holzborn and how the location of and audience
to a Donkey improvisational event are affecting parameters
to the music. Further exploration of Hans Fjelletad's improv
prowess should be done by a thorough listening to the
engaging solo album 33 (Accretions). Focusing on Hans' use
of the keyboard, there is a style spectrum from quiescent,
reflective melodies, to playful patterns to authoritative,
mock-fascistic attacks with sampled voices reminiscent of
Laibach.
