Interview:
Richard Kaczynski -
Richard Kaczynski
returns to talk about his Aleister Crowley scholarship. This
time the well-researched tome "Perdurabo" (New Falcon) is
the result of that effort. Richard comments on Crowley in
America, the years of work that went into creating this
biography and the revelations it holds for those interested
in this infamous figure.

Outsight Radio
Interview:
Richard Kaczynski -
In "Rebels
& Devils: The Psychology of Liberation" (New Falcon),
Christopher S. Hyatt, Ph. D. combines over 400 pages of
articles from William S. Burroughs, Austin Osman Spare,
Timothy Leary and more to intellectualize rebellious
activities and occult, fringe philosophy as some of the
manifold paths to realizing a full human potential. It is in
the analysis of the life and motivations of Aleister Crowley
and the candid, in-depth interview with Israel Regardie that
the savage breaking of taboos is seen as a tool. The
interview by Hyatt with Regardie and the following Crowley
analysis by psychologist Richard Kaczynski are the
core of the book, literally and figuratively. This strips
the mystique off occult activity and rebellious behavior and
describes them within the confines of a methodology. To
quote Kaczynski in "Taboo & Transformation": "The ceremonial
magick championed by Crowley…is, in a nutshell, alchemy: The
transformation of one's base character into gold. …If
psychological triggers can precipitate spiritual change,
then the taboos socially programmed into us can act as
triggers for major spiritual transformation." In this
interview, Kaczynski discusses Crowley, the Detroit O.T.O.
chapter and his upcoming biography of Crowley.

Perdurabo: The Life of Aleister Crowley |
Editorial Reviews
Book Review (from Amazon.com)
Perdurabo is truly a majestic work. Taking the
reader on a comprehensive and insightful tour de
force, we are given delightful, exciting substance not
found in other biographies. The author elegantly and
solidly paints a vivid picture of the astounding life
of Crowley, his varied - and often bizarre - interests
and influences, and the multiple directions his life
took.
What is unique about this work is the revealing
nature of its chapters which offer detailed accounts
of letters, "magickal" practices and previously
unexplored facets to this extraordinary life. The
author seems to want to give you all the goods, which
I like.
Two other wonderful works about this fascinating
subject - 'Astrology, Aleister, and Aeon,' and 'Do
What Thou Wilt' - when taken in consideration with
this one, provide a delightful trilogy that vouchsafes
the most relevant and probing ideas surrounding their
subject. When all three are read, one captures a
thorough picture of Crowley, for better or worse.
Crowley, the highly controversial mountaineer,
magician and writer, is rendered powerful and frail,
alluring and repulsive: many lives wrapped up into
one. Intriguing, to say the least.
An extensive Notes and References section that
pushes this magnificent work close to 600 pages makes
the price an absolute bargain. Not to mention the
glorious cover art that really must be held to
appreciate.

Rebels &
Devils: The Psychology of Liberation |
Editorial Reviews
Midwest Book Review (from Amazon.com)
Rebels & Devils: The Psychology of Liberation
brings together some of the most talented,
controversial and rebellious people of all time. Some
(William S. Burroughs, Timothy Leary, Robert Anton
Wilson, Aleister Crowley) are world famous. Others
(James Wasserman, S. Jason Black, David Lee) are
well-accomplished in their own fields, but are not
known in the wider world. Every contributor, every
article, in every aspect of their lives has had but
one focus -- to bring freedom to their world. In all
of human history the essence of the independent mind
has been the need to think and act according to
standards from within, not without. To follow one's
own path, not that of the crowd. Inevitably it follows
that anyone with an independent mind must become "one
who resists or opposes an authority or established
convention" -- a rebel. Usually rebellion is done so
quietly that no one notices. But when others
(especially others with power) recognize the
disobedience, the rebel becomes the rebel. And if
enough people come to agree with (and follow) the
rebel, we have a devil. Until, of course, still more
people agree. And then, finally, we have greatness.
Until the new unorthodoxy becomes the established
norm, and the cycle of rebellion starts up all over
again. Rebels & Devils is a fascinating, engaging,
articulate, informative, and thought-provoking work of
considerable scholarship. --This text refers to an out
of print or unavailable edition of this title.
