Interview:
The King Of France came together in
New York City in early 2002 after singer-guitarist Steve
"Salad" Salett (Deformo)
Michael
Azerrad at a secret Pixies
reunion show in Sedona, Arizona, on New Year's Eve,
2001. On the same flight back to New York they had a
conversation about the connection between rhythm and
melody. Upon this connection they built the idea for
their band and later added a keyboard player they found
doing
Harry Nilsson
songs on harmonium at a subway station. Measured beats
and subtle melody recalling
Velvet
Underground and The Only Ones marks the pre-debut
album of material released by Salett as
The King Of
France, Salad Days. In this interview, Michael
discusses the buzz the band is building as well as its
formation.
